Röyksopp, aka Svein Berge & Torbjørn Brundtland, release their sublime new single
‘The Girl and the Robot’ through Wall of Sound on June 22nd 2009.
Featuring the unmistakable vocals of fellow Scandi pop superstar Robyn, ‘The Girl and the Robot’ is shaping up to be one of the biggest pop tracks of the year with the likes of Pitchfork declaring it a contender for Single of the Year already and Popjustice calling it ‘a demented, choral, electronic masterpiece’.
‘The Girl and the Robot’ is a brilliant, huge, melodramatic, technoperatic tune about a love affair between woman and android and is moving, both for the head and the heart. ‘There’s a story in there and we needed to do something a bit deeper than 100 per cent lighthearted pop,’ says Brundtland.
‘The Girl and the Robot’ is the second single to be taken from the critically acclaimed ‘Junior’ album and follows the recent single ‘Happy Up Here’ - which was playlisted at Radio 1 and became a breakfast show favourite.
‘The Girl and the Robot’ is also coming with a whole heap of fabulous remixes from the likes of Kris Menace, Joakim and Chateau Marmont. Röyksopp’s new album ‘Junior’ has already been described as ‘genius’ by The Sun, ‘pop perfection’ by iDJ and ‘our happy pill of the day’ by the Sunday Times. Röyksopp arrive back in the UK to play London’s Get Loaded in the Park festival which takes place at Clapham Common on Bank Holiday Sunday 30th August 2009, where Röyksopp will be headlining one of the arenas.
